PLEXUS ACTIVITIES 1982-2003 with a short pre-history

The Pre-History - In December of 1978, in Rome, at the performance space “Il Cielo”, The Culture Slave Auction Show, a social event organized by some cultural organization of the LIACA (League Italian Alternative Cultural Associations) in which Sandro Dernini, Paola Muzzi, Cristina Torelli, Giovanna Ducrot and others members of these organizations performed the rite to sell themselves as slaves.

-   In the spring of 1981, in New York, The Artist in the First Person, a cultural program by the Italian Center for Contemporary Culture of New York University, directed by Sandro Dernini and coproduced with the artists as independent producers.

From May 29 to June 7, 2004, in Dakar, at the Cultural Center of the Municipalità of the Medina of Dakar, Plexus International presented The Triangle of Art Festival n.2, within it was staged the first act of “Erosions and Restorations ”, an international travelling art event. It was held within the DakArtOff section of the Biennale of Contemporary African Art. It was organized by Assane MBaye with Sandro Dernini, Kre Mbaye, Youssouph Traoré, Ousseynou Mbaye, El Hadji Cheikh Mbaye, Gallo Thiam.

From 26 November to 5 December 2004, in Ballarat (Victoria), in Australia, it was staged at the Grainery Lane Theatre Gallery, the second act of “Erosions and Restorations, managed by Culture Lab in collaboration with Plexus International, on the occasion of the Eureka Rising Festival, organized by Culture Lab with Willem Brugman, Catherine Hassall and Graham Bird.
